Dec 3, 2016

####NYU Shanghai Seniors Selected as 2017 Schwarzman Scholars Seniors Roxanne Roman and Jacko Walz were selected as Schwarzman Scholars for 2017. The scholarship will support the two students as they study in Beijing’s Tsinghua University. Roman is a Social Science major and an advocate for women’s empowerment, while Walz will pursue a concentration in International Studies. The first class of NYUSH will graduate in May 2017.
####Assassins Game Launches at NYUSH NYUSH’s first ever student-run Assassins game will debut on Dec. 5. The objective of the game is to eliminate your target by clipping a clothespin on to any part of their body. Targets are randomly assigned, and participation, so far, is highest among the seniors, who are eager to target the growing groups of sophomore and freshman participants. The fee for entering the game is 25 RMB, equivalent to about 13 AED, and the money collected will go toward prizes, including tickets to Shanghai Disneyland.
####Candy Grams Spread Holiday Cheer Amid the stress of midterms and excitement of returning home for winter break, NYUSH’s Student Life and Residence Committee will be delivering candy grams to students in the Jinqiao dormitories. Friends can write each other notes and the Committee will purchase the candy and take charge of the delivery process.
####Push for Public Feminine Hygiene Products Motivated by discussions in the private NYUSH group on Facebook, students have begun to organize a call for the university’s Health and Wellness department to provide access to emergency pads and tampons in bathrooms in the Academic Building. While Health and Wellness does provide feminine hygiene products in their office, many students are unaware of this service and do not know how to access tampons and pads in the case of an emergency. The movement calls for NYUSH students to visit Health and Wellness and ask that bathrooms be stocked with emergency products, countering the department’s insistence that this is not an appropriate allocation of their funds.
####2013 Fund Launched On Nov. 22, the 2013 Fund was launched at NYUSH. As the university accepted its first class in 2013, the fund encourages students, particularly from the class of 2017, to donate 20.13 USD in recognition of the school’s founding. Based on votes from the student body, 100 percent of funds raised will be put toward scholarships for the incoming freshman class.
Led by Roman, the fund accepts donations of any amount and aims to build a community of giving at NYUSH.
