####Istakshif On Jan. 28 the Class of 2020, visiting students, some upperclassmen, staff and faculty were invited to join Istakshif Abu Dhabi — a scavenger hunt race around the malls, galleries, shops and parks of the city. The event was organized by the Office of the First Year Experience as part of Marhaba.
The limit of 25 teams was raised to 28 when approximately 175 people applied to play. Each team was given the same list of tasks, each of which carried a certain number of points. Tasks ranged from taking a photo of a black cat to getting a haircut or riding a tricycle at the Corniche.
The day ended with the announcement of the winners at the Inter-Residence Hall Council's Welcome Back Festival at the Central Plaza. The festival featured three food trucks offering varied cuisines along with live music.
####Opportunities Fair
Spring 2017 kicked off with the Opportunities Fair organized by the Career Development Center on Feb. 2. The Opportunities Fair brought in more than 70 companies from Abu Dhabi and surrounding regions. Companies represented at the fair included L'Oreal, the United Nations and Zomato.
All of the companies that were present at the fair were actively looking to hire in the upcoming six months. Some of the companies expressed a particular interest in NYUAD students.
“The Opportunities Fair was a great way to explore what is available in the community, from volunteering to paid internships, to get a sense of what I may want to do or apply to,” said Katarina Holtzapple, Class of 2020.
####SIG Fair On Feb.2 the West Forum hosted representatives from a number of Student Interest Groups at the SIG Fair organized by Student Government. More than 50 SIGs, which include new additions such as Cinema Paradiso, presented their plans for the semester and recruited students.
More than 50 percent of the leadership positions this semester are held by the Class of 2020.
