PIXEL
On Thursday night, the innovative hip hop performance, PIXEL, held its UAE premiere in The Red Theater at the NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Center. On opening night, the new hip hop dance performance received a standing ovation. There was a large turnout with three sold-out performances. The performance was a mix of hip hop dance and virtual images presented on stage, creating a 3-D platform. Created in 2014, PIXEL has been performed in over 100 cities around the world. Mourad Merzouki handled choreography, blending in the dancer’s movements with the digital projections of Adrien Mondot and Claire Bardainne.
“It was amazing. A masterpiece. The images and dancing were combined at the precise moment, creating art,” said Iris Ryu, Class of 2020.
SIG Fair
On the afternoon of Sept. 9, the Student Interest Group Fair took place in the East and West Forums. The event was organized by the Office of Student Life and Student Government. More than 60 SIGs were present, allowing students to explore and sign up for a variety of groups.
SIGs range in their focus from more cultural SIGs, such as the Latinoamérica SIG, to academic SIGs, such as the Debate Club, or activity-based SIGs, such as The Coffee Collective. Some new SIGs established this year include Mountain Madness and Spacious Meditation.
Internet Outages
There have been intermittent internet outages on campus throughout the past week. Since the first day of classes, students have been experiencing problems with obtaining strong Wi-Fi connections.
The IT Technology Center responded to the outages on NYUAD Student Portal, saying, “We are still experiencing intermittent internet outages across the campus due to service interruptions from Etisalat. We have escalated the issue to Etisalat management and will continue to monitor the availability of our services around the clock.”
