What happened on campus last week?

Nov 5, 2017

Outdoor Concert
On Nov. 2, Toshi Reagon with her band, BIGLovely and Friends, performed outside the East Plaza. The stage was set up in front of the Arts Center, where an enthusiastic audience awaited. The concert began around 8 p.m. The music was a mixture of rock, blues, R&B, folk and funk.
Food trucks filled up the East Plaza, serving a variety of food. Students, faculty and visitors from outside NYU Abu Dhabi were able to enjoy a fun night under the stars.
Open Mic
On Nov. 2nd, the Office of Student Life hosted the event featuring a series of interesting performances at the campus West Dining Hall at 8 p.m. Student Life encouraged students and faculty to just show up and “Do anything. Be anything.”
Students showed up in their Halloween costumes. Some performers sang while others recited poetry. Light refreshments were provided for both the audience and performers.
Halloween Dodgeball
On Thursday afternoon at 7 p.m., a friendly game of dodgeball commenced. Students dressed in halloween costumes gathered in the basketball court to continue the celebration. Mariam Hany, Class of 2020, commented, “It was so fun! I love these theme events organized, it ends the week right.”
Thor Ragnarok
Victor Lindsay, Associate Director of Student Activities at NYUAD, organized a movie screening on Friday afternoon. The event took place at the World Trade Center Mall, where a theater lounge was reserved for students who signed up for the event.
More than 150 students showed up and many described it as a great way to de-stress from the week. There was much excitement in the room as students awaited the premiere of Marvel’s biggest franchise.
Increase in Printing Usage
On Oct. 30, Ecoherence’s post was shared on the Facebook group NYUAD Student Life, which sparked a conversation between students. The post featured a graph illustrating the number of sheets printed by students per month. Last month, 156,953 pages were printed by students. This number counts double-sided paper as two pages.
Although the increase in printing is partly attributed to the increase in size of the student body, Ecoherence stated that the paper usage per student is also increasing. Students accounted for half of the printing volume on campus last month.
