Go Green Week

NYU Abu Dhabi has organized a full week of activities to help the university turn green in support of the Year of Zayed. A range of activities will be offered between April 17 and 22, including a panel on careers in sustainability at the Career Development Center, an edible water bottle workshop, a World Earth Day Fair and a trip to Al Wathba Wetland Reserve. There will also be a scavenger hunt, which all students are welcome to participate in. The full schedule and RSVP options for the Go Green week events are available through the Student Portal.

Education in Emergency Contexts

For those interested in public policy in emergency contexts, conflict management or education, the ElevatED SIG organized a panel with Hirokazu Yoshikawa, the Courtney Sale Ross Professor of Globalization and Education at NYU Steinhardt. Yoshikawa will speak about his Sesame Street project and his work with the International Rescue Committee that pushed for provision of early education to refugee children and was awarded MacArthur Foundation’s 100&Change grant. The panel will take place on April 16 from 6:30 p.m. in A3-001 and will be open to all students. Sign up for the event here.

Beyond the Pitch Startup Showcase

Beyond the Pitch startup program is celebrating 20 student teams from across the UAE and their work in creating original startup projects. The startAD central space will be showcasing the results of the six weeks of learning and production by student teams on the themes of Diversity and Society, Education, Health, Mobility, Sustainability and Happiness. The 69 participants come from 11 universities across five emirates. Come and get a glimpse of the future generation of entrepreneurs and their creative contributions to the startup arena in the UAE. The showcase, open and free of charge for all students, will be hosted in A6-014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on April 16.

Empowering Women in 2018

The CDC and the Women’s Mentorship program will host a panel discussion on gender equality in the workplace and methods of empowering future generations of women in corporate settings. The talk will be led by Nour Gaspard, a Senior Consultant at PwC and a member of the United Nations Development Program, and Dina Mustafa, the Head of Sustainability Operations for the Dubai EXPO 2020 and a mentor at the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women. The aim is to build awareness of the role of women in the workplace through discussion with the guest speakers. The event is open to the whole NYUAD community and will take place on April 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the CDC Café.
