Summer Internship Series: Social Impact and Education
Are you looking for a summer internship but don’t know where to start? The Career Development Center’s Summer Internship Series is here to help. This internship series is aimed at providing information to students who wish to intern in the fields of education and social impact. Current NYU Abu Dhabi students from the Class of 2019 and Class of 2020, who have previously interned in these fields, will be at the event to share their experiences and advice on landing an internship. The students have had experience interning at the Women’s Foreign Policy Group, Hedayah in Abu Dhabi, the Autism Support Network in Abu Dhabi, Global TIES for Children as well as other work and research experiences. If you would like advice on applying for internships in the social impact and education fields and want to hear students’ own experiences, come to the Career Cafe on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m..
Secrets to Banking
If you’re interested in learning about corporate and investment banking, then join the Business and Finance Society in their Secrets to Banking event. Students will be able to learn from current NYUAD seniors who have landed jobs in these particular fields, specifically at Citibank and HSBC. Sasha Rovinska, Fatih Haloglu and Thomas Yates, all Class of 2019, will be sharing their experiences and insights into the fields. The discussions will be held in a banking interview format to provide students with a chance to practice. For a look into corporate and investment banking, interview experience and KFC, come to the StartAD Space in the Arts and Humanities Building on Monday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m..
UAE National Day
NYUAD will be celebrating the UAE’s 47th National Day on Monday, Nov. 26 from 5 p.m. onwards in the Central Plaza. Students will be able to enjoy various events and visit many stations around the plaza. Some of the activities planned for the day include traditional crafts, Oud performances, Henna and Emirati coffee and dates. The celebration will also feature a singing of the UAE’s national anthem and remarks from NYUAD Vice Chancellor, Al Bloom. Join your peers, staff and faculty in celebrating this monumental holiday.
NYUAD Sufara’a Open House
NYUAD’s Sufara’a invites students to attend its 6th biennial Open House, titled Reflections, on Monday, Nov. 26 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.. The event will provide students from various universities the opportunity to network and engage in dialogue with other students. Sufara’a, NYUAD’s student ambassador program, aims to connect NYUAD to universities across the UAE and to provide students with the tools to become effective ambassadors within their university and the larger UAE community. The program of the event will include networking, reflection dialogues and UAE National Day celebrations. If you are interested, RSVP here.
Islamic Awareness Week
From Nov. 24 until Nov. 29, the Muslim Student Association will be holding an Islamic Awareness Week at NYUAD. If you have ever wanted to learn more about the fundamental ideas and aspects of Islam, this is your chance to do so. The association will be hosting many workshops and halaqas — discussions — that explore the 5 Pillars of Islam, which include Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj. These pillars are Islamic obligations and will be explored through various activities during the week. The events will be open to the whole NYUAD community as a way of familiarizing NYUAD with Islam and its core values.
