NYU and the US Admissions Scandal

NYU Spokesman, John Beckman comments on college admissions scandal.

Mar 16, 2019

New York University spokesperson John Beckman has released a statement in the aftermath of the college admissions bribery scandal due to the fact that it has appeared on Key Worldwide Foundation's tax returns as a donation recipient.
The Key Worldwide Foundation is a charity organization allegedly used by its owner, William Singer, to funnel money that would be used to bribe college coaches and fake standardized test results. 50 people have been indicted in connection to this scandal, including 33 parents. The group of wealthy parents indicted included celebrities such as actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.
NYU Athletics received $338,379 between 2014 and 2016 from Key Worldwide Foundation. “We have only just begun to review the origins and purposes of these donations,” the university said in the statement.
The statement ended by saying “At NYU, the Athletics Department is not empowered to prescribe that certain students be admitted, nor do coaches have direct contact with admissions officers about particular candidates whom they may be interested in having for their teams.”
