Quarantunes is a gentle reminder to viewers that art has been the unwitting enabler of sanity for every mind and soul during these trying times. As we feel increasingly trapped within the walls of our confined living quarters, consuming art works almost like an antidote for the mind, be it a twitch stream with the voice-over of a Call of Duty gamer crushing a multiplayer campaign, a pirate podcast by The Strokes or an unheard of YouTube channel with juggling tutorials.

The film is a collection of shots capturing a group of budding artists exploring different genres of music. The video and sound were recorded on an iPhone 11, with, at first, no intentions of turning them into a film. However, in light of the recent developments of the global pandemic, we have learned that there’s something special about sharing human creativity and expression, for artists, in their countless shapes and sizes, provide these little pockets of escape. Hence, we decided to spend some hours on the edit table, mapping out how to transform the footage into a narrative that helps humans find comfort in familiarity.
Above all, this is the time to be vocal. Social media is our shining armor and we must mobilize our knighthood. Now more than ever before, we need to support local, homegrown talent. The race to find a vaccine for the body makes many promises, but the art that cures the mind lacks recognition. Amidst the current landscape, the only way to express gratitude is by showing online approval, in the smallest of ways. Some might disqualify the fantasy world of “likes”, “shares”, and “heart-reacts” as petty, but our endorsement shows our creators that they’re doing something right, that they’re catching onto the right octaves and that we’re riding it out with them. Feed your voices forward, today.
