Situated in a region entrenched in Islamic values, the rapidly modernizing city of Abu Dhabi is at a crossroads: the intersection between tradition and modernization. The Western fashions of expats to the sprawling skyscrapers constructed on Arabian sand is juxtaposed with the traditional abayas, niqabs and Islamic architecture of fossilized coral, cut in blocks, bonded with sarooj.
The city’s topography is marked by contours and its oceans are saliently rooted in its pearl-diving history. Politics, geography and social interactions are stamped with contrast. The following is a collection of photos examining the double exposures of Abu Dhabi.
