The Gazelle DOES NOT Recommend: Saving Your Time

Things the editors of The Gazelle found lacking and would recommend you skip so you save yourself time and money.

Nov 3, 2025

No doubt you already have your plates full. Assignments, club events, catch-up dinners, and networking coffee-chats: everything is happening all at once. Meanwhile, the sweet treats you totally deserve for surviving through all this are depleting your campus dirhams at alarming rates…
The Gazelle comes to rescue your time and money. Here are some things our editors have found to not be worth investing a dime and second in.
The Biryani at Chakra, Amn Zain Ul Abidin
Guys, biryani is a savory dish, infused with spices, culture, and saffron-scented goodness ... NOT the honey-drizzled rice Chakra cooks up for us. Take the tip: save your flex dirhams for the acai bowls.
Regretting You (movie), Zeinab Helal Do NOT watch the new romance film Regretting You, even if you have a deep love for Mckenna Grace in the same way that I did. I am not sure what happened with the direction of romance movies and rom-coms recently, but it has just been flop after flop (with a few clear exceptions), and this film is not one of those exceptions. Save yourself the trouble and time – just watch the official trailer, which basically tells you the entire premise of the film without having to give up 2 hours of your life to get to the point.
Elenor and Park (book), Mayada Abuhaleeqa Do NOT read the novel, Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. To be fair, I read it years ago so maybe my opinion would differ if I reread it now, but the characters seriously got on my nerves. Also, the love between the two main characters felt so forced and fake, and it is borderline racist! Do not waste your time with this. I am truly convinced anyone who likes this is blinded by nostalgia.
Passenger 57 (movie), Abenezer Gebrehiwot This is perhaps the only movie I managed to finish while continuing to experience the initial hesitation (of whether to watch it) throughout the entire streaming, which changed to a regret about wasted time as soon as the movie ended. Was it because the plot was too predictable? I am not sure. But unless you have never watched an action movie or you are required to watch it, say, as part of a class, don't watch Passenger 57.
Heyday 35mm film camera, Yana Peeva If you are a film camera rookie and you are looking for something cheap and easy to operate to start with, the Heyday camera is surprisingly not it. Despite the camera’s description as the more sustainable but equally intuitive alternative to a disposable camera, the cheap plastic design makes operating it so much more difficult than getting a slightly more expensive beginner camera, maybe like the Kodak Ektar H35. I am still looking for the perfect one myself…
Jebel Hafeet Hike (trail), Dana Mash’Al
While I was expecting an actual trail, but I ended up getting a few rocks and metal poles as signposts. It was a three and a half hour drive one way, so around seven hours both ways, just for a one-hour hike. There were also no signs for where to start or end the hike, so once you get to the park where it should hypothetically start, you are left on a patch of grass with no idea of where to go. It has so much potential, but it left me wanting so much more.
