NYUAD’s Dragon Boat team competed in their last event of the season this Friday at the Dubai Festival City Dragon Boat Festival. The 16-person team raced in two 200-meter dashes to take third place in the University Division. The team also organized themselves into a crew of six women and six men to participate in the 500-meter mixed race.
Csilla Kiss, co-captain of the team, explained her enjoyment of the team aspect of Dragon Boating.
“Paddling together, for each other and for the university,” Kiss said, “[it’s] so much more inspiring paddling for the team.”
This was the team’s second race of the season.
Kiss encouraged more students to try the sport and to join the team next semester.
In a sport that very much relies on the teamwork and the synchronicity between paddlers, it can be difficult to deal with the constant turnover of the crew each semester as students come and go for study abroad. Despite this, however, NYUAD’s Dragon Boat team has risen to the challenge and looks forward to continued success next semester.
