April 23 marked the night of the second annual Al Khayr Student Leadership Awards gala, a formal dinner at which students, faculty and staff united to recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate outstanding qualities of leadership over the past year. The event took place in Park Hyatt Hotel and attendance was limited to the finalists, their plus-ones and the organizers themselves.
Finalists were selected based on nominations submitted earlier this month by members of the community. The awards were planned and organized by Campus life. An award committee comprised of faculty, students and Campus Life members decided on the winners.
The Al Khayr awards, named for the phrase meaning ultimate good in Arabic, featured 12 categories. During the ceremony, recipients of the President’s Service Award, which is awarded to to students across the Global Network University, were also announced. Last year’s categories, Fostering Dialogue and Inclusivity and Understanding, were merged to form the Diversity, Inclusivity, and Dialogue award, and Healthy Living was added as a new category.
The keynote speaker of the night was David Tinagero, Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
