Exhibitions and Emirati film screenings: some the events happening this week at NYUAD and in Abu Dhabi.

####Backyard Poetry x100tpc On Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., in the Art House Café, the 100 Thousand Poets for Change will have its second yearly event, Backyard Poetry x 100tpc. It’s an open mic event for poets, musicians and spoken word performers. There is a fee of 30 AED and doors close at 8 p.m.
####Rooftop Rhythms Rooftop Rhythms is an open-mic spoken word poetry and performing artist event. This week it will be held in the NYU Abu Dhabi Marketplace at 8 p.m. on Sept. 30. The event will be hosted by founder Dorian Paul Rogers and DJ’ed by DJ A.L.L.A.D.
####Invisible Threads Opens An exhibition at the NYUAD Art Gallery, Invisible Threads opens this week, including works from 15 artists such as Ai Weiwei and Addie Wagenknecht. The exhibition will be run until Dec. 31.
####Automatic Language Detection Seminar A computer science seminar on the Automatic Detection of Abusive Language Online will be held on Sept. 25 at 3:30 p.m. by Joel Tetreault. The seminar, called When Words Cause Harm, will present machine learning methods to detect hate speech in an attempt to better identify cyberbullying and online harassment. Tetreault is the Director of Research at Grammarly, focusing on the development of Natural Language Processing tools and components.
####Assassin Sign-Ups Go Live Assassin is the campus-wide kill or be killed game. Sign-ups are live and close midnight Sept. 26. The sign-up form can be found on the Student Life Facebook page.
####Abdullah Film Showing Abdullah, the first feature from Emirati director, Humaid Alsuwaidi, will be shown in the NYUAD Conference Center on Sept. 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The film documents one man’s reconciliation of things forbidden by Islam and his love for music.
####Adjusting to NYUAD Workshop This Thursday, Sept. 29, the peer support group REACH is facilitating a workshop with tips and tools to help students adjust to life in college. It will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the A2C Residential College, second floor lounge.
####REACH “If You Really Knew Me” Campaign REACH, in collaboration with NYUAD student Bill Hyder, is collecting anonymous responses to the statement "If you really knew me, you'd know that…” Contributions will be displayed on campus unless chosen otherwise, to strengthen the larger community through its similarities and differences. The campaign was inspired by the I Wish My Teacher Knew book and the Challenge Day program.
