Football and Flamboyant Impressions: some the events happening this week at NYUAD and in Abu Dhabi.

######Yellow Brick Road Yellow Brick Road is the fall 2016 Mainstage Student Production, organized by the NYU Abu Dhabi Theater Program. The production will take place at the Black Box in the NYUAD Arts Center from Oct. 12 to Oct. 15, with a show every evening at 8 p.m. and an additional matinee performance on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. The play is inspired by the classic novel The Wizard of Oz, but it will also use the story to explore narratives of global crisis such as climate crisis and displacement. ######Cultural Connections of Mleiha Eisa Yousif, supervisor of Archaeological Survey and Excavations at the Directorate of Antiquities in Sharjah, will make a presentation at the NYUAD Conference Center about the archeological center of Mleiha, one of the most important sites in the Arab Peninsula. The talk, which takes place on Oct. 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., will discuss the role of Mleiha in the ancient world and explore the elements that make it such a distinguished site. RSVP here.
######The 2016 Presidential Discussion in Global Perspective A discussion about the U.S. elections will take place at the NYUAD Conference Center on Oct. 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The topics to be discussed are the campaign, recent debates and the possible consequences of the results of this election. The speakers are Daniel Benaim, former foreign policy speechwriter and Middle East advisor to Vice President Joe Biden, and Abdulkhaleq Abdulla, chairman of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences and professor of political science. The moderator will be Adam Ramey, assistant professor of political science at NYUAD. RSVP here
####Off Campus ######West Australian Symphony Orchestra: Richard Wagner Gala The WASO, one of the leading ensembles of the Asia-Pacific region, will perform excerpts of Wagner’s most famous dramas at the Emirates Palace Auditorium on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. Find out more or get tickets here.
######FIFA World Cup Qualification There will be a football match between the UAE and Thailand on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. in a bid to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The match will be held at the Al-Jazira Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium. Competing teams are among the best 12 in Asia. Ticket prices range from 200 AED to 1,000 AED. ######Flamboyant Impressions — Photo Exhibition The Flamboyant Impressions, an exhibition by the German photographer Andreas Denstorf, will be held at Emirates Palace from Sept. 30 of this year to March 4, 2017. His photos are characterized by a pop art style, photo segmentation and vivid colors. Find out more about the photographer here.
######Ladies, Life and Landscapes The Painted Desert, an organization run by by painters Rebecca Janeteas and Naomi Keir, has organized an art exhibition at the Millennium Corniche Hotel. The exhibition will open on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and will continue until Oct. 10. More information can be found here on their website.
